Grand Obsession named 2007 SW Book of the Year
Grand Obsession has been named a 2007 Southwest Book of the Year by the Pima County Public Library and the Arizona Historical Society. From the Pima Country Public Library website:
"A Professor of Mathematics, the legendary Harvey Butchart logged and meticulously detailed over 12,000 miles of explorations below the rim, uncovered the web of ancient routes and sites of indigenous tribes, solved other mysteries and emerged as the acknowledged greatest explorer of the Southwest's most famous natural wonder. Written by two other Canyon explorers, with personal accounts of their efforts to follow in Butchart's footsteps, this story of a remarkable life transcends biography and becomes gripping adventure."
For 31 years Southwest Books of the Year has brought you the best of the Southwest in this annual publication. Our panelists, distinguished subject specialists and devoted bibliophiles all, read all year to identify the books they think are the cream of the crop.
Grand Obsession was selected by the writing team of Sharon Gilbert, formerly a librarian at Pima County Public Library and her partner, Solar Institute scientist Paul Huddy.
